The word love is bandied about so much in our modern culture, that sometimes it looses its real meaning. I wonder what our younger generation think of whenever they hear the word love. In this month of February we often see the word accompanied by pink or red hearts and a naked cupid with bow and arrow.
I even saw a condom commercial and also one for viagra cheapening the word love.
A photo of a newborn infant in the arms of its parents or grandparents is an expression of love. But to me the greatest picture of love is my Savior with his arms outstretched as he loved me and you enough to give his live for us, a ransom for many. This is love, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What an amazing love that he selflessly gave up the adulation of myriads of heavenly hosts and the comfort of being on the throne with the father, to come to earth where he was treated harshly, tortured, ridiculed and killed. That is love. It is not sexual or ooey romance, but determined, lasting, and magnificent. May we love others like He has loved us.
